Mahama condemns ‘shameless abuse of state power’ over military ‘siege’ of Volta, other regions

Presidential nominee of the NDC, John Mahama has condemned the deployment of military personnel to the Volta, Oti and some other border regions.

According to the former president, the presence of the troops “have begun to create panic and anxiety among residents of the various regions…”


In a statement, Mahama said the residents “have been left in no doubt that the deployment is part of a larger strategy to intimidate them into abstaining from the [voters] registration exercise starting on Tuesday.”

Deployment of military to Volta, Oti regions creates suspicion – Rawlings

Former President Jerry Rawlings has backed cries of concern following the deployment of military and other security personnel to border towns in the Volta and Oti regions.

In a statement, Mr. Rawlings said the move by government is “generating animosity especially amongst innocent citizens whose basic way of life is being disrupted.”

“The deployment along the borders at peacetime especially at this particular point in time has created so much suspicion and will call for a lot of intelligent flexibility and diligence,” he added.

High Court dismisses final case against EC’s voters’ registration exercise

The Adenta High Court has dismissed a case filed against the Electoral Commission’s voters’ registration exercise set to come off on Tuesday, June 30.

Lawyers for Ashaiman MP, Ernest Norgbey had tried to make a last-minute request to the High Court to injunct the EC’s registration of voters.

They maintain the Supreme Court decision allowing the exercise to go ahead in compliance with C.I 126 cannot be adequate on lawful basis.

They say C.I 126 does not provide for the compilation of a new register.

I have seen many NPP activists trolling the Bono Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC , Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo on social media for daring Ghanaians to castrate him if the Electoral Commission is able to compile a new register . It is almost similar to the statement made by Reverend Owusu Bempah in 2016 that if John Mahama won the 2016 elections, NDC guys were free to burn down his church .
